How to choose a hosting plan
Updated Sep 15, 2026YallowHost offers two ways to run your websites and applications: managed hosting, where we look after the platform, and cloud servers, where you have full control. The right choice depends less on size and more on how much of the system you want to manage yourself.
Managed hosting: we run the platform
Managed hosting suits business websites, online stores and content sites where you want to focus on the site rather than the server. Our team prepares the hosting account, and you manage your site through the control panel and the account details we send you once the service is active.
- No operating system updates or server configuration for you to maintain.
- Your plans, renewals and cancellation requests are all handled from Managed Hosting in your account.
- A good fit when you do not need to install system-level software.
Cloud servers: you run the server
A cloud server is an unmanaged virtual server with root access. You choose the server type, location, plan and operating system, and optionally add RAM, block storage or a pre-configured business application from the App Store.
- Install any software your application needs, from web servers to databases and custom services.
- You are responsible for the operating system, security updates and your own backups.
- If you want help, you can request server management support or ask our team to run a command for you.
Questions to ask before you choose
- Do you need root access or custom software? If yes, choose a cloud server. If not, managed hosting is usually simpler.
- Who will maintain the system? If nobody on your team is comfortable administering Linux, prefer managed hosting or add management support to a cloud server.
- How much storage and memory do you need today? Start with what you need now. Plan pages list the resources and price of each option before anything goes into your cart.
- Which billing cycle suits you? Managed hosting plans list every cycle they offer. Cloud servers are billed monthly or annually.
Getting it right without overbuying
Choose the smallest option that comfortably covers your current needs rather than the largest one. If your requirements change, open a support ticket describing what you are running and what has changed, and our team will help you work out the right next step.
Ready to buy? Placing your first order walks through the cart, checkout and payment. For cloud servers, see Deploying your first cloud server.
